Luxury Villa holidays

Curious about the term “villa” as it relates to vacation rentals?

A villa experience (in Barbados) typically refers to renting a private luxury estate with expert staff, impeccable interiors and a host of on-site luxe amenities. Villas can also encompass a less lavish experience however the premise is that the villa is private to you and your guests. Whereas with a hotel it is a shared experience with multiple guests on the same floor.

How do you book a villa?

It is best to trust a reputable company that has been in the villa rental business for over 20 years. Having trusted international and local affiliates is also a good sign. A good villa rental company will have an authentic website and a reservations department where you are able to chat online or send an enquiry. When booking a villa, here are some easy steps to follow:

  1. Visit blueskyluxury.com to start your search.
  2. From the home page enter your arrival and departure dates, total guests and number of bedrooms needed.
  3. Once your search results are returned you can book directly online from the property you choose or send an enquiry to an agent. (Booking online is secure, all credit card information is encrypted.)

Ok! So you are booked. No bell man? No front desk? No restaurant? Hotels have staff available to assist 24/7 and offer a wide range of services such as: room service, housekeeping, and concierge services. What does a villa have?

Many high-end luxury villas have staff such as butlers, chefs, housekeepers and laundresses for the duration of the stay. Concierge & Guest Services and Property Managers are also on hand to make the experience more convenient and luxurious. The concierge offers a more personal and customised vacation experience by arranging fast track, groceries, meals and activities before you even arrive. Property Managers are on call 24/7 in case anything goes wrong at your villa. You will always feel secure as a Guest Services Agent will check with you at your convenience to ensure that all is well. Some holidaymakers prefer to dine out or make use of fully-equipped kitchens. It’s a great option to either plan menus with your chef or to cook on your own.

What can I expect when I arrive?

Hope you like rum punch! In some villas the staff will meet you on arrival with a beverage and give you the grand tour. Expert staff members will let you in on any insider information to make you feel more welcome in your home away from home. Welcome packs have lots of information on the island as well as contact numbers in case of any emergencies.

Privacy and independence: Villas typically offer more privacy and independence than hotels, as they are separate, self-contained properties.

Loads of space: Villas usually have more living areas than hotel rooms, which can be especially beneficial for families or groups of friends travelling together. In most cases a villa be double the space of a hotel room.

Outdoor space: Many villas have outdoor areas such as a pool or a patio, which can be great for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather in Barbados. Private gardens offer a relaxing oasis for barbecues or a space to rejuvenate in absolute peace.

Amenities: Depending on which villa you choose, like hotels, villas can have a wide range of amenities like swimming pools, fitness centers, and spas.

Ultimately, the choice between a villa and a hotel will depend on your personal preferences and the specific needs of your trip. We recommend trying the villa life at least once, you won’t regret it. You have all the privacy of your home while enjoying the beautiful scenery and luxurious amenities of Barbados.

Barbados is a beautiful Caribbean island with stunning beaches, crystal clear water, and vibrant nightlife. The South Coast of the island is known for its laid-back atmosphere, perfect for those looking for a more relaxed vacation. As locals, we have explored the South Coast extensively and compiled a list of must-visit spots for anyone planning a trip to Barbados.

Beaches

The South Coast is home to some of Barbados’ best beaches. Dover Beach, located in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap, is a popular spot for swimmers and sunbathers. Its clear, turquoise waters and soft, white sand make it a perfect spot for relaxation.

Looking for something more secluded, Miami Beach is a great option. Located in Oistins, this beach is perfect for those looking for a quieter spot. It is great for snorkeling and exploring the underwater world.

Another great beach to visit is Accra Beach, also known as Rockley Beach. This popular spot located in Christ Church, lined with palm trees, offers a wide range of activities, including swimming, sunbathing, and water sports.

Local Cuisine

No trip to the South Coast is complete without sampling some of the local cuisines. We recommend trying a traditional Bajan dish like Flying Fsh and Cou Cou, or Macaroni Pie. For a sweet treat, try the famous rum cake or coconut bread. Many restaurants in the area serve these dishes, so you’re sure to find something delicious to try.

When it comes to dining on the South Coast of Barbados, there are plenty of options to choose from. Here are a few of our top picks:

Nightlife

The South Coast is home to some of the best nightlife on the island. St. Lawrence Gap is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. It’s filled with restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, making it a great place to party the night away. The vibe is lively and fun, and there’s always something going on.

Try heading to Oistins Fish Fry. This weekly event occurs on Friday nights and is a great place to sample local foods, enjoy live music, and experience local culture.

Activities

If you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity, we recommend checking out the Barbados Boardwalk. This scenic walkway spans 1.2 miles along the South Coast and offers stunning ocean views. It’s a great way to exercise while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Along the way, you’ll also find many restaurants and bars where you can stop for a bite or a refreshing drink.

Another great activity is exploring the Historic Garrison area. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to historic buildings and museums, including the Barbados Museum and George Washington House. It’s a great way to learn about the island’s rich history and culture.

For those who love water sports, the South Coast is a great place to visit for surfing or paddleboarding. Surfers Point is a popular spot for surfing, while the calm waters of Carlisle Bay are perfect for paddleboarding. Both activities offer a great way to enjoy the beautiful waters of Barbados while getting some exercise.

And for those looking for a more relaxing activity, we recommend visiting some of the many spas available. With several treatments, from massages to facials to body wraps, you are sure to find something that will leave you feeling pampered and refreshed.

Conclusion

The South Coast of Barbados is a must-visit destination for anyone planning a trip to the island. With its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and endless activities, there is something for everyone.

The importance of keeping a complete, catalogued, inventory listing of all of the items (including appliances, equipment, furniture, soft furnishings, cutlery, and linens) at your home cannot be overstated. All items in all areas, such as garages, storage gazebos, and should be included.  This is very important when requesting insurance coverage and having the necessary documentation should an insurance claim need to be made.

How our team can help you

For Blue Sky Luxury holiday rental properties, your property manager will count, inventory, and log all of the property’s effects and complete a thorough check of the quantity and condition of the items. Your property manager will be required to conduct spot checks after each guest departure and will notify you of any proven damages or losses. Any replacements needed at that time will be purchased. These replacements and any other additions that may occur during the year will then be  on the annual inventory listing when retaken.

For homes that rent long-term, full inventories are always taken and updated in between tenancies. In both cases, your property manager will be responsible for checking the home after each departure so that the reconciliation of the security deposit can be completed, with wear and tear expected depending on the length of time the tenants resided there. Similarly, any replacements and additions will be captured on the updated listing for the next expected tenant.

When offering your home for holiday rental, it is important to know and provide adequate par levels for all glassware, cutlery, dinnerware, linen, and towels. For example, you want to ensure that the home has place settings, matching glassware, and cutlery for the advertised number of guests that can be accommodated at the property plus 50%. For example, for a 4-bedroom rental property that accommodates 8 guests, the catered capacity will be 12 people.

Similarly, when a property is offered for long-term rental, adequate rent levels, while different from the expectations of a holiday rental home, are also expected.

When the inventory listing is created, the location, make, and model of all appliances and equipment are noted. During this process, it is a great opportunity to create an asset register for these items. The asset register will have all of the above details and photos, plus the serial numbers. Information, where available, on the age and value of each will be recorded.

Many services are offered during the onboarding of new homes to Blue Sky Luxury; however, if you are interested in any of these services as a one-time, separate service, please contact us for a quote.
