Everything Crop Over

For Barbadians, summer is Crop Over season, as the festival brings three summery months-worth of diverse events, complete with something for everyone to enjoy. Bring the whole family for a leisurely day of crafts, music, food and toys at Bridgetown Market, an outing at the Visual Arts Festival exhibition, or, front row seats at one of the many steelpan music events. Enter the young ones in the Kiddies Kadooment parade through the National Stadium or gather your friends for an experience like none other at our breakfast parties, sunset party cruises and all-inclusive parties. Then, cap it all off by joining hundreds of Barbadians along the island’s streets to watch the parade of the bands on Kadooment Day.

The Ultimate Weekend Starter

In the spirit of the Crop Over celebrations, Fridays are even more festive in Barbados. The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) recently unveiled the latest cultural spectacle the island has to offer. “Festive Fridays”, held at Pelican Craft Centre in the island’s UNESCO Heritage site of Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, marries the best local food, street performers, live performances, DJs and cultural characters with the chance to pick up a uniquely Barbadian piece of art or souvenir on the evening.

Celebrate our Culture…

If Crop Over piques your interest in the history of the island, then learn more at the many museums across Barbados. The Arlington House Museum in Speightstown is an interactive gem for the kids, while the Cricket Legends of Barbados is a cricket-lover’s dream, fittingly located opposite Kensington Oval. But possibly the highest concentration of museums in the Caribbean sits within the Barbados’ World Heritage Site, which is home to the Mallalieu Motor Collection & Car Museum; the National Armoury Museum; George Washington House Museum; The Barbados Museum & Historical Society (the National Museum); the Exchange Museum, focused on Barbados’ trade and financial history and houses a floor dedicated to Free Masonry; and, the National Heroes Gallery  and Museum of Parliament in the heart of Bridgetown.
