Historic Tours

Tour George Washington House: Tour George Washington House and the Garrison Tunnels. You can take this tour on any week day, not just on Mondays and Wednesdays.

See the very home where a 19-year-old George Washington laid his head for 6 weeks in 1751. Also see, walk and learn all about the intriguing and mysterious Garrison Tunnels. George Washington never went abroad, except to Barbados in 1751. It was a turning point for him, and in this beautifully restored house where he stayed, you learn how. Its upstairs museum uses artifacts and interactive displays to showcase 18th and 19th century Barbados, and gives eloquent witness to the experience of slavery. A short distance away is the Military Cemetery, a place of haunting beauty that few people ever see.

Dress nicely casual.

No pre-booking is needed. Just follow the directions – look for the signs.

Call the George Washington House at 228-5461 to ensure that the viewing is on as advertised.

Entrance Fee:
George Washington House: Bds $20.00
Tunnels: Bds $20.00
Both: Bds $30.00

The Barbados International Fishing Tournament is one of the premier fishing events in the Southern Caribbean, and attracts participants from across the region and internationally each year for five days of fun and competition. The emphasis in recent years has been on making everyone a winner.

The 2018 tournament will again be staged at the Port St. Charles Marina in St. Peter and will feature anglers and their families from places such as Antigua, Grenada, Guadeloupe, England, Italy, Martinique, Jamaica, Scotland, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States of America. The tournament is certified as a qualifying event for the annual IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) Offshore World Championships, and also forms part of the Southern Caribbean Billfish Circuit.

The 2018 event is expected to continue to be a big success, and previous years has seen an average of 35 boats and 225 anglers participating, with some spectacular catches being recorded as the teams revel in the magnificent conditions. Apart from the fishing, there is much dockside activity to help liven the event, and each evening sees hundreds of people gathered to witness the boats arriving with their catch, as well as to join in the festivities such as cocktail parties, a fashion show, wine-tasting, live band, music, happy hour drinks, pig-roast and fish fry to name a few.
